Hailey Glassman is opening up about the mystery man she calls her husband after her “lavender marriage” became a topic of conversation on “The Real Housewives of New York City.”
The 39-year-old RHONY newcomer, who was previously known for her relationship with Jon Gosselin, has kept her current relationship largely out of the spotlight. But Hailey shared some surprising details about her husband in an interview with Bravo Insider, including why viewers shouldn’t expect him to pop up alongside her on Bravo.
According to Hailey, her husband has deep roots on Martha’s Vineyard and no interest in becoming a reality TV personality.
Hailey Glassman Reveals Why Her Husband Refused to Film RHONY
“[He’s a descendant of the] first Jewish settlers on Martha’s Vineyard [and] has a really big business” on the island, Hailey told Bravo Insider.
When asked why her husband didn’t film RHONY, Hailey said he made his position clear.
“He wasn’t willing to compromise,” she explained. “He didn’t want to ruin his family’s legacy.”
Although Hailey has not publicly revealed when they married, their relationship goes back decades.
“We’ve known each other since he was 12 years old,” Hailey revealed. “We were neighbors in Martha’s Vineyard, and we met at sailing camp.”
The couple now divides their time between New York City and Martha’s Vineyard, where Hailey said they spend their summers.
“We go back and forth and spend the summers out there,” she said.
Hailey also described her life on the island as considerably different from her work life, saying she enjoys spending time on the water, serving on charity boards and playing tennis.
Hailey’s ‘Lavender Marriage’ Gets Questioned on RHONY
Hailey’s marriage is already raising questions among her new castmates.
As teased in the RHONY season 16 trailer, Jessel Taank directly asked Hailey about the term she uses to describe her relationship.
“What is a lavender marriage?” Jessel asked.
“I sleep with women intimately as well,” Hailey responded.
Bravo also teased that Hailey’s unconventional approach to life and relationships will become part of her first season. Her official bio describes her as having an “offbeat humor and unconventional personality,” while teasing that questions from her friends will force her to confront parts of her identity and past.
Andy Cohen Says Hailey Glassman Is ‘Going for the Crown’
Hailey joins RHONY alongside Carole Radziwill, Daisy Toye and Erika Hammond, and Andy Cohen is already making some big promises about the revamped cast.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Andy said Bravo waited until it felt the casting was right before moving ahead.
“It took a while and we didn’t want to relaunch the show until we got the casting exactly right, and I have to say, with Carole Radziwill, Daisy Toye, Erika Hammond, and Hailey joining the group, we have nailed this casting,” Andy said. “The new housewives come out with a bang. They’re so memorable.”
Andy singled out three of the newcomers as ones to watch.
“Daisy, Hailey, and Erika, I mean, the three of them are going for the crown,” he teased.
New episodes of “The Real Housewives of New York” air Tuesday nights on Bravo.
