Carole Radziwill’s return to “The Real Housewives of New York City” coincided with another television project tied to one of the most painful periods of her life.
Carole began filming RHONY in early 2026, around the same time FX aired “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette,” Ryan Murphy’s dramatization of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s relationship.
Carole’s late husband, Anthony Radziwill, and John were first cousins. John, Carolyn, and Carolyn’s sister Lauren Bessette died in a plane crash in July 1999. Anthony died of cancer just weeks later.
More than two decades later, Carole returned to reality television as a scripted series brought John and Carolyn’s story back into the cultural conversation.
‘Love Story’ Arrived Just as Carole Returned to Bravo
Carole did not watch “Love Story,” but its arrival still had a major impact on her.
“That show, really, it was like a body slam. I didn’t watch it, but you couldn’t get away from it,” she told USA Today.
The timing put Carole in an unusual position. RHONY cameras followed her present-day return to Bravo at the same time another television series dramatized people connected to a deeply personal chapter of her past.
Carole had already written about that period in her book, “What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship, and Love.” She was not portrayed as a character in “Love Story,” but the FX series renewed public interest in John and Carolyn and the people who had known them.
“It was very hard… I hadn’t planned on talking about it. I wrote about it. I think people sometimes conflate talking and writing. What I had to say about that time in my life, I wrote in a book,” she explained.
That meant Carole’s comeback after leaving RHONY in 2018 was unfolding alongside a much more personal story she had never expected to intersect with her return to the franchise.
Old Grief Became Part of Carole’s RHONY Return
The overlap between the two shows did more than bring old memories back into the public conversation.
When “Love Story” aired, Carole said, “the emotions all came back.”
“It’s a little grief that I felt, almost the whole time I was filming… You’ll see the arc of that story throughout, I think, the whole season [of RHONY],” she shared. “Certainly in the beginning, and then it comes up really big at the end, and that was completely unplanned.”
That reaction adds a much more personal layer to her RHONY comeback. Carole was not simply returning to a reality series after eight years away; she was doing it while another show revisited people whose deaths had shaped a major part of her life.
It also created an unusual collision between Carole’s past and present. “Love Story” offered a dramatized version of John and Carolyn’s relationship, while RHONY was documenting Carole in real time as that story returned to public attention.
That makes her season 16 return considerably different from a typical former Housewife comeback. The circumstances surrounding it connected Carole’s return to Bravo with history she had previously explored primarily through her own writing.
New episodes of “The Real Housewives of New York City” season 16 air Thursday nights on Bravo and streams the following day on Peacock.
