Amanda Batula’s longtime best friend Katie DeLuca Arundel has a lot more to say about her relationship with West Wilson — including how little she initially knew about it.
The “In The City” star, who has been friends with Amanda since childhood, appeared on the Aug. 12 episode of the “Conversations with Cam” podcast and revealed that Amanda’s romance with West caught her by surprise.
Despite spending time around Amanda and West when they were still presenting themselves as friends, Katie said she learned about their romance at essentially the same time as everyone else.
“They were friends,” Katie said. “I found out when everyone else found out, but I found out the details the day before the statement came out when I showed up to her apartment and was like, ‘I need to have a conversation with you. What the f—k is going on?’”
Amanda and West publicly confirmed their relationship in a joint statement on March 31.
Katie Says Amanda Batula ‘Lied’ About West & Reveals the Warning She Gave Her
According to Katie, she had directly asked Amanda about the nature of her relationship with West shortly before the couple went public — and didn’t get the full story.
“I’m not going to get into details about it, but a week before the statement came out, I had texted her a question as it pertained to the nature of their relationship, and she lied. Yeah,” Katie said.
Katie also confirmed that she and Amanda privately disagreed about the relationship.
“Yes, we had disagreements in private,” she said.
One of those conversations happened after Katie spoke with Lindsay Hubbard, who shared additional information about the timing of West’s previous relationship with Meija Moreno.
“I remember honestly after she filmed with Lindsay one-on-one, I had drinks with Lindsay and she gave me updates on West’s timing with Meija that I hadn’t been privy to in the past,” Katie explained.
The new information led Katie to voice her concerns directly to Amanda, particularly about her plans to travel to Italy with West.
“I raised real concern with Amanda,” Katie said. “I was like, ‘I don’t think you should go to Italy with this man. He might drop you like a hot cake. Do you really want to give up everything? What are you doing?’ Those conversations happened in private.”
Katie DeLuca Arundel Says She Still Supports Amanda Batula
Although Katie didn’t agree with every decision Amanda made surrounding the relationship, she made it clear that the disagreements haven’t changed their longtime friendship.
“I think two things can be true. Like, you can disagree with some things your friend is doing or actions they’ve taken, but you can simultaneously still think they’re worthy of friendship and love them,” she said. “I feel like the middle ground’s gotten completely lost.”
Katie ultimately sees Amanda as the same person she has known since they were children.
“When I look at Amanda and who I know as Amanda Batula, is the girl from third grade from elementary school that I’ve known my whole life who made a mistake,” Katie said. “And it doesn’t mean that shouldn’t define who she is as a holistic person because it’s not who she is. And I think that’s the hardest part to me.”
